During 2015, to celebrate 80yrs Robert Alwyn Hughes began work on the concept – “returntotheABSTRACT” – once again re-inventing ideas formulated by the ‘ BLACK BOX’ of the 70’s
The Black Box was exhibited during the 70’s at the Grosvenor Gallery London. It was not until 2008 that the series of works entitled “BLADES”materialised. Inspired by the discovery of transparencies which had been thought to be lost.
A series of prints, paintings and structures were produced, resulting in an extension of the ideas in a more tangible form than the original BB structure. Where as the BB attempted to create with light and colour a series of images that changed immediately. A kind of holograph in an intangible form, other than to one’s occular senses. A culmination of shapes and colours within a physical space (Black Box).
The prints and large paintings of 2015 together with short films expressed the idea to create by the projection of images in a darkened
environment, a physical space in which the viewer is encompassed’

Images are projected and the central fugal force induced
shapes become a concave Paraboloid
